Prayers as We Travel

Sent this prayer email out yesterday.  It is now less than 24 hours till we travel.  We need to be at the airport by 4 am on Wednesday.  Thank you for reading and praying for our family!  If you would like to receive our prayer updates or newsletter emails, please leave a comment to let me know.

Faithful friends and prayer warriors,

Once again you find us writing to you in the midst of packing and transitioning.  Our time in the US has been a huge blessing that has passed ever so quickly.   In less than 48 hours, we hope to be in the air on our way to Nampula, Mozambique.  As we have packed and gotten ready for this next step in the journey, questions and anxieties once again circle our hearts.   “Are we ready?  Do we have what we need?  What is life going to be like next week?”  Faced by these doubts and questions, we try to focus on two things: God’s faithfulness and the fact that you are praying us through this journey.

God is faithful.  He went before us to Brazil and will do the same in Mozambique.  Looking back on our prayer requests as we went to Brazil- for friends, a good church home, the boys’ school and a chance to serve God- God answered these requests in a way that is more than we ever imagined.   We have no doubt that He will do so again in Mozambique.  (He already has begun to answer requests for Mozambique as our visas for travel there were approved smoothly and quickly!)

Your prayers are powerful and are used by God to strengthen us for the journey ahead.  There have been many times in the past year that situations have risen and sometime in their midst, we will say, “Someone is praying for us or someone has prayed already for this.”  Having this assurance and this peace is priceless.   Please know that God is continually using you and your prayers to impact our lives, the lives of those we meet and His kingdom for eternity.

Over the next few days, as we travel and transition to a new culture and home, please continue praying for the following:

Travels:  We have several close connections (Roanoke, VA - Charlotte, NC- New York, NY- Johannesburg, South Africa- Nampula, Mozambique).  We should be in the air for about 24 hours, with the longest stretch being 17 hours.   Please pray for on-time connections, the arrival of our bags, sleep on the plane and that we would all have great attitudes throughout.

Transitions:  Moving is always stressful, but when you add a new culture and country to the mix, things get all kind of exciting.  Please pray that we would be able to find our places quickly-for us to settle into a good routine, to make new friends, find a good church home in which to worship and serve, clarity in our roles serving Bible translation and the boys as they start school in a couple of weeks.

To be used by God:  Our desire continues to be used by God to bring His word to the nations and to see His kingdom come on earth as it is in Heaven.  Pray for our hearts to be diligent in seeking Him and that our time with Him is powerful and sweet.  Pray that we would be intentional in sharing His love and story with others and that our hearts would be surrendered and eager to serve.

Thank you once again for the priceless gift of your faithful prayers.  We would love to know how to be praying for you as well!!  Please respond to this email with any specific requests we can be lifting up for you or your family.  May God be gracious to you and bless you.  May He make His face to shine upon you, that His way would be known upon the earth and His saving power to all the nations. (Ps 67:1-2)

With Love,
David, Wendi, Caleb and Nathan Richards
